At roughly 10.20. this morning a 14year old boy walk into a classroom at Apalachee high, located in the suburb of Winder Georgia. Upon entering he began to open fire with one of the many killing machines that are easily attainable in America.
The varied customary players for now routine tragedy's hit their marks. The media, law enforcement and most of all the "thoughts and prayers" politicians, who apparently have never read the biblical statement that God helps those who help themselves.
I am going to throw nice out the window here and go straight to blunt.
Our schools are just glorified shooting galleys. Run by people who view their purpose, the school's that is, as being to field winning sports teams, ban books that might upset some Wack job. and most of all provide cheap babysitters for families that to have two incomes in order to survive.
There are many reasons this pandemic of violence has its bloody grip on around the throat of America's children. I am going to take a look at two that I don't think get enough discussion.
One is the normalized acceptance of violence as a way to solve a problem, any problem. Whole movie franchises that are built around the idea that a punch in the mouth or better, yet a hole blown though the stomach will solve any intractable problem one might have.
I know so many parents that have been righteously upset at the idea of their eighteen-year-old seeing any movie with hint sex in it, while being happy to take a five-year-old to a marathon of slasher flicks. I am not in favor of any kind of censorship, but theaters strictly enforcing the age restricts on movies and parents backing the theaters up on said enforcement would be a start. Again, if kids seeing the act of love is bad for them the roughly eighteen murders, they see on TV every day must be worse.
Second contributing factor to my eyes is the absolute anger that older generations seem to have towards younger generations these days.
As a Baby Boomer I am a member the generation that firmly believes that the constitution guarantees us the right to be eternally young and we are so pissed that things have not worked out that way. The resentment by my generation and those just after us is palpable.
Does this cause people, especially young people like today's shooter to shoot up a school? Of course not. However, having this attitude in the social atmosphere doesn't help.
We all know that the severe misreading of the second amendment is the main problem. Mitch Mconnell has shown us that our political system is to broken to provide any real help. If you want to trace when America became a lost cause go back to Sandy Hook and Parkland and look at how Mitch's legislative skills and the NRA's money mange to stall out the wave of passion for gun reform that sprung up after those horrors.
So, here's my most useful advice to young people on this issue. GET OUT!
Get whatever education or skills needed to leave this country and GET OUT!
We are nation in the midst of nervous breakdown and it's not going to get better. Nothing will be accomplished by your staying and becoming another news story that will be forgotten by six o'clock news hour.
Save yourselves. We had our chance.
Best wishes to today's victims and their families.
